I have completed the redux on my rudder and am planning to reinstall it this weekend. Anyone know where I can get the plastic shims? Are they teflon? Any ideas?

Ultra High Molecular Weight (UHMW) plastic

The ones that I cut myself have been in for two seasons now. See the link below. Cost me $3 per sqft. ...RickM...

Plastic chopping boards

are UHMW. Get one at Target or the dollar store and cut and drill.

I did get mine through Hunter

About $20 with shipping. I suppose I could have made them myself, but . . .

PVC Pipe

The plastic sheets are to keep the aluminum tiller from rubbing on the aluminum plates. When I rebuilt my rudder I used a `6" piece of PVC Pipe - cut in half, drilled to let the bolt in the tiller through the center of each half and holding it and placed around the tiller. When I move the tiller up and down the pipe halves go with it and prevent any rubbing just like the plastic sheets did. PVC is good as it does not degrade much with UV and is easy to work with.

Plexiglass

The quote that I got from Hunter last year was a lot higher than Michael got, and calling around for supplier of HDPE (High Density PolyEthyline), which is what Hunter told me to use, were not much better. I considered the cutting board route, until I read somewhere that the cutting boards are not UV stabalized, and would need replacing after a few seasons. Then I was bumming around in Home Depot and came across the plexiglas, and decided to give it a try. It cost less than $10, and I cut them out with a Dremel Tool. I installed them at the beginning of this season, and will see how they last. So far, so good. Rob, S/V Kinship H 23.5
