We had lovely 20 knot winds again this weekend. I'm beginning to think the PO must not have sailed this boat lately . . . Every time I take it out in 20 knots, something else breaks :) (1992 Hunter 30 - I purchased in July.) This weekend's break was 3 of the plastic sail shackles that connect the main to the sail slides in the mast. I had a few extras on board (left by PO), but I need to buy some more and change out the rest before they break, too. I need to determine where to get them. I looked in West Marine, but the longest ones they have say 11/16" inside length. Mine is more like 1 1/8". The picture shows one of the broken ones, which looks like the original equipment. The new one in the picture is one of the spares left by PO. We installed spares this weekend, and they seem to fit fine. Suggestions?

Good source, all common sizes, types

see sailrite.com on the web. I've found their items and their shipping to be first rate.

Spare is fine

The key is to replace parts as closely as you can to the original, insofar as that ensures the proper fit. Temptation is to overcompensate with a bigger part, but that can lead to other problems. You're wise to consider replacing all of them, and I would suggest three or four at a time over subsequent weekends.

Talk to a sailmaker

If Rigrite doesn't have it then talk to a sailmaker. They usually know where they can get anything. Or, at least, order it.

parts obtained

Doyle Ploch in St. Pete had the exact parts and shipped very promptly. Now the replacement mission can begin . . . Thanks to all on this forum for all the wonderful help! Sherry

Spare sail slides

I suggest you buy spare sail slides while you're at it! They break over time also. BrianW

spare sail slides

Brian, Good suggestion. PO left a box full on board, so I'm covered. Sherry
