There is a thin plastic film liner under my seat cushions and under my bed cushions. This liner looks and feels like drycleaners plastic. You know the stuff that they use to cover the clothing. I think that this is used as a vapor barrier of some sort. It does keep the moisture out of the cushions if there is a sipll. I need to replace some of this and am looking for a source. Last year I lost some of plastic when I cleaned the cushions. I have searched the archives and cannot find mention of the stuff.

drop cloths

Last year I took apart and cleaned the cushions on my "85 28.5. I also found that some of the cushions has this moisture barrier. I simply went to the Home Depot and purchased the thinnest paint drop cloth available. Folded it around the foam and put the cushions back together. Works very well.

Tyvek?

Thats what it looks like to me. Tough stuff, like they make postal Priority mail envelopes from. I even bought a jacket made out of it once on eBay. Must be about the price of canvas. 'm putting canvas down as my bottom surface...I just like the air flow. Jack

Hello George

I discovered this plastic film when I took one of the covers off one the cushions. I figured it was put there during manufacture to facilitate the ease of inserting the foam into the cloth cover. I figured that it may in fact become a moisture barrier on the wrong side ie keeping any moisture within the foam rather than let it breath. I have taken the plastic film out of all of the cushions and bunks mattresses. Wonder if Hunter has some guidance here cos if it is needed I guess I'll be around to my drycleaners to get some more????

Slip Film

The plastic is called slip film and is used with a vacuum cleaner to shrink the foam cushion so it can be slipped into the cover. Go to www.atrim.com and look at How To Do and stuffing cushions. Then go to the S tab and look up Slip Film it is cheap and worth it. Doesn't make as much noise as some harder films. I bought new foam for cushions and other items from American Trim and have been very happy with them.
