I posted this in the Southern CA Sailors group as a message, but I am not sure how many of you get messaged from there.
We are planning a trip over to 2 Harbors on the weekend of Aug 15,16. I plan on leaving MDR Friday the 14th. I would like to return on Monday to make it a 4 day weekend. It is a non-holiday weekend and should be able to get a spot on the string line. I know some of you bigger boys like to go over to Cat Harbor but adding another 8 knots to a 30 knot trip seems a bit much for me.
If you are going a prearranged meetup at the outdoor bar might be fun.
If you plan on sailing over from MDR and want to go over together let us know.
Times and dates are still tentative.

Frank, wish I was going. I'm stuck at a retirement dinner. Unfortunately, it is not my retirement!

Did you know that they were taking reservations for the string line only? Might want to give them a call and see if they still take reservations.

I thought that they were still doing reservaions on the spring line. The program was popular.

They are and thanks to you I don't have to worry now. I'll be right next to the Sheriff's boat. Probably not as much fun as my last neighbor.

Can you make a Catalina trip in a MacGregor? a Hunter? Don't you have to do it in a Catalina? I could do it in my Islander.

Ross, at your age, I'm impressed you can do it anywhere!
Tim, Helen has Sat and Sun off from the weekend of the 15 and 16. She only get one two day weekend a month. She really wants to go to Avalon. What do you think about Friday night in 2 Harbors and an afternoon sail up to Avalon on Sunday morning. It should be easy to get a mooring in Avalon for Sunday. Helen usually catches the early morning jet boat back to Long Beach on Mondays.
As far a pics go, I only have the ones of the guy hanging from the helicopter. I do have a video you might want to buy. :poke:

I have to work that Sat. If I took Sat off the wheels would come off the cart.
:theman:I have to worry about my people.

Why not go both weekends?

As far as the video goes, who hasn't pooched a spinnaker launch. It's not as if my boat fell off the trailer, or the motor fell off, glass houses my friend:ass:

Did I mention anything about a spinnaker? My idiotic nautical faux pas are well documented in the archives. Not to imply that your debacle was in anyway the the result of being mentally challenged.

You better get there early. We just got back and Avalon was filled on Wednesday morning. We had to moor at Hamilton, for a rock and roll couple of days. Two Harbors was also filled up but not as bad. Too many boats.

The entire front side was filled by Friday morning. In fact, they had a wait list for Isthmus Thursday night. We were in Cat and even it was filled Saturday morning. We went to Avalon Sunday noon expecting to be able to pick up a mooring for a night when the weekenders left, but at noon we were the seventh boat in line and the harbor looked full. We just went back to Shoreline.

Caguy has a reservation on the spring line. So he won't have a problem at least in Isthmus Cove. It is the advantage of being smaller. Isthmus Cove still will take a reservation on the spring line.

Was there anything special going on? Some of the meetups and fish derbies can really fill the place up. I have reservations at 2 harbors and plan on trying to get a spot at Avalon for Sunday night. I'm hoping a lot of people leave on Sunday as usual. Last month the Catalina boat cruisers meet up filled 2 harbors. I was the second to the last spot available. Thanks for the heads up.

Are you talking about Avalon? I don't know if there was anything special. There were a ton of power boats tho. The trick is to get there about 0930 to get a chance at a mooring after the boats have left and the patrol runs the moorings.
