I am a first time boat owner of a 1976 O'Day 20 named Awesome. She is docked on a river in the Chesapeake Bay. She has been out on a maiden voyage that went pretty well.
I have spent the first part of this season getting her cleaned up inside and outside ~ she was left in the water basically unattended for 3 - 4 years.
The previous owner was a [retired] ship wright and a sailing purist... so he did not have an outboard or mount on the boat.
We purchased a motor mount (with spring lift), and a friend gave us a nice Mercury 5 horsepower 2 stroke long shaft engine.
Now where do I put the motor mount? I already know that it should be on the right side of the tiller and rudder...
How high should the mount be? Where should it be placed?
Any info would help. Thanks.
PS I am a girl but quite handy. My boyfriend will probably help me installing the motor mount.
