Hi, all you delta sailers.I'am thinking about leaving Oregon and moving somewhere that you can sail more often.I've got an older motorhome and my boat.I'am selling off everything else.I can't believe all the thing we acquire over the years. Are there RV parks, that are affordable, close to the delta and within driving distance for work.I grew up in Hayward and Fremont and went water sking alot in the delta, and some great bass fishing , but am completely out of touch of what's going on there now. I've only got a year or so,under my belt in sailing, and need to be closer to water,to sail more often to improve. We have a lot of lakes, but you can't depend on the wind and there an hour away.A lot of driving after working all day.Happy sailing. JIM

Everybody's doin' it.

Jim: Everybody seems be doin' it. Commuting from areas in the delta to Sacramento, Stockton, Bay area etc. There are plenty of RV parks. The questions are how far are you willing to drive and how much are you willing to pay. I would suggest that you search the internet for some parks and rates. You will need to have A/C on your RV for the summer heat (don't know if that is much of a problem in OR.). Jobs are scarce in CA. right now, so be prepared to sit and wait. There is not a lot of sailing in the Delta during the fall and winter. Foggy and not a lot of wind, unless there is a storm. River flows in the spring CAN easily make a sailboat almost useless during this part of the year. Other than that, life is wonderful in the Delta. Easy access to SF/San Pablo bays.

Steve,my RV is a 28ft. Pace Arrow with 2 a/c's.I used to spend a lot of my summer months around Bethel Island. Is Franks Tract sailed often? I've worked at fabrication shops and driven truck for 12yrs.,so I have CDL license. It's kind of scary to just pick up and move, but if I don't,it will take a lot longer to become a better sailer. Thanks for your reply. Best sailing is out in the rivers.

Jim: The best sailing is out in the river (San Joaquin and Sacramento). I suppose with a smaller/shoal draft boat you can sail in other more restrictive areas. You best bet is to plan a trip to the area and look around for about a week. You need to find a place to permanently locate your RV. I would do this before the season really starts. Most of these places are going to fill up fast once the boating season starts. Bethel Island is a good place to locate. It is sort of in the middle of everything with good bridge access to travel north and south. You can also check out the tower park area off of HWY 12. It is located between I-5 & Hwy 160.

Sometime you may want to tow your boat down to Lake Pleasant and park your motorhome there for sailing thru the fall, winter, and spring. Then head north or to higher climes for the summer. If you do, join up with the Arizona Yacht Club for lots of regatta action or some good time cruising. Dick K.
