I will soon get my new Hunter 170. I have a name, but can't figure out where you would put one on the boat. What do others do? Is there room on the stern end of the seats? The obvious place is already taken with a commercial message.

If you go look around a marina, you will see that most boat names are on the transome or on the aft part of the hull. There is no hard and fast rule that I've ever heard of, beyond the tastes of the owner and the practical issues of making it fit. If you have graphics or a long name, you will probably need to put it on the hull rather than the transome, to make it large enough to see at any distance. Otherwise you're free to do as you please. Here's to many happy sailing seasons... I was just in Menemsha sailing with some friends on their "big boats" - beautiful place! And in a few weeks, hope to bring my 146 and moor on the flats near Rock Harbor. I envy you your sailing waters! What kind of "commercial message" and where is it?

Thanks for the helpful tips. Sorry for being coy. I was referring to the Hunter 170 sticker on both sides of the boat where a name might be put.

Sailing cats and dogs
Two 170 name pics - one paying homage to cats, the other to dogs! Is their a correlation btwn pet owners and Hunter 146/170 owners? I know plenty of you havedogs as first mates. Don't think my cats woul enjoy it very much.
