I have an 1988 model 28.5 Hunter with all standard Yanmar diesel. Will a 16 inch 10 pitch prop 1 inch shaft fit and work well on my boat? My hull # is 2961788. Thanks for any suggestions.

Doubt it!

Christy: I doubt that it will even fit! You need to pose this question to a prop shop. They have a calculator that will size a prop to the boat. They need the model boat, weight of the vessel, the engine, transmission ratio. Then they calculate the prop. The web site says that this boat is suppose to use a 14 x 12 2-blade or a 15 x 10 3-blade (not sure that these are correct either). But you also need to have the proper tip clearance (I think that it should be about 15% of the diameter of the prop). Why do you want to use this prop on your boat?

That's pretty big ...

I would think you are more in a 14 in max type of prop. Probably the 1 in. shaft is correct though ... did you measure it or check the boat motor specs?

May be to big.

Hello, According to the records we maintain on the vessel, it looks like it was equipped with a 15” on a 1” shaft. I would be concerned that the 16” could get close enough to the hull that the spill off the blades could make contact to the hull creating noise. Not sure what type of prop you are referring to but its diameter could most likely be altered if you find it does in fact create noise. Good luck. Kevin

FAST!

Thanks for the response guys. I put the 16" 10 pitch folding prop on my 28.5 Hunter. Took her out for a moonlite sail, and man did she fly! She just had a bottom job also. At 2000 RPM's, we seemed to have been flying. At 2500 RPM's, she had a vibration. It is to soon to tell, but it seems faster under sail, and motorpower. I will keep you posted.
