Hello
Spring is comming so..

Were working on rebuilding a 1GM10 yanmar engine that seized. To make a long story short, everything is looking up except we can't find specs for the piston ring alignment in any online owners manual, parts manual, or tech data sheet. Is this not as big of a deal as I think in a small engine like this. We can go to yanmar but they want around 60 dollars for a book on all gm engine repair.

Thanks for your help

i am assuming you have 4 rings on the piston .......you will want to place the bottom ring on and then the second ring 180 degrees from the first one at there gaps....then you will want place the third one 90 degrees from the second ring gap and the fourth one 180 degrees from the third ring gap ...this info is from the yanmar manual for a 2 qm15 engine

hope this helps

regards

woody

Ring Gaps

If you are replacing the rings then you will need to grind the ends of the rings to set the width of the gaps correctly.
On other engines I found this info on the web and it is usually 4 thou per inch of bore - but check for your engine first. Put the ring into the cylinder and push it to top and bottom of the bore using the piston to keep it square and measure the gap at each end. This is because bores can wear tapered.
Set the ring gaps approx 120° apart (if there are 3 rings).

Did you win it? I thought I was watching it but it's not on my watch list for some reason.

Thanks a lot for all of your advice. We have the pistons on and the engine together. I have a manual but has NO info about the rings. Have everything else I can think of but nothing on pistons. We put the first on like you said 180 for the second and the third 90 degrees from that. So it looks good its all back in one piece and ready to run.
Thanks for all your help
