New reality show, like survivor, except this one is using the Picton Castle as the home of 16 actors pretending to be pirates, doing contests and voting each other off the boat. You can see the first episode on the web-site for pirate master CBS. Although the show isn't my thing, I liked seeing shots of the tall ship, if for only a few moments. Any thoughts?

Thoughts? Yeah, I have thoughts...

The Deadliest Catch. Don't need any other water show.

Drawn and quartered

I missed the show and part of me wants to give them the "black spot". You see, I sent my application in and it seems they selected some other slimy cutthroat amature! Aye, maybe they will come to their senses and come back to the island for me. I guess I really should observe the ship of fools they first selected to see what I missed (or they missed).

This is Supposed to Be Called "Reality TV"?

Not in my book.

Picton Castle

You can see the Picton Castle up close and personal, as well as 49 other tall ships and character boats in Norfolk, VA this weekend for Harborfest. The Parade of Sail this year is even bigger than OP Sail years ago because of the 400th Anniversary of Jamestown. Should be a good time!

Amen to Deadliest Catch

Now that's a reality TV show. First episode this year had a boat go down and show had a cameraman in the CG Rescue Chopper. Another episode had a crewman go overboard from another boat and one of the feature crews rescued him. This show makes all other "reality" shows out for the garbage they are. Bottom line is best show on TV, IMHO.

I, too, really like 'Deadliest Catch'

I've watched, mostly in awe, most of this series. Whether its banging ice off the hull, having very cold boarding waves drop on you, or working your tail off for days without sleep, these guys are impressive. I don't care much for any of the captains, but I suppose that's business. I am just amazed at what these guys do, the conditions they do it in, and that there seem to be so few injuries.

Along with Deadliest Catch...

I like to watch Survivorman and Born Survivor. They aren't really about sailing, but are every bit as interesting as the contrived "reality" shows.

The promos for this show really caught my eye

Lie Cheat Steal What a hook (no pun intended). I think the rest of this reply belongs on the political forum. Nope, not my cup o'tea.

Are they really actors?

Is this a scripted show, or is it a "reality" show? I find Survivor and its ilk unwatchable. For me, its all a bunch of contrived malarky. I mean, what kind of person wants to be on TV that badly? Now, if the pirate show features people who are professional pretenders, that might be entertaining. However, I saw a promo or two, and I got the impression that it was a reality show. IMHO, the only reality show worth watching is that one on SpikeTV from Japan. I forget the name, but its a game show from Japan where teams of contestants compete in some extremely bizarre and semi-dangerous stunts. The best part is that the whole thing is dubbed in english, but the script is not a translation from the Japanese, but something completely different. TFF.

Most Extreme Challendge...

Or... MXC. Funny as hell and very entertaining. US reality shows pit people who are social misfits against each other. They really aren't worth watching. Now, Deadliest Catch... when one sees a 30' wave come over the starboard side of the boat and take a 200# coiling tank that is bolted to the deck, and rip it up off said deck like it was nothing... that's R E A L! It don't get no better than that!
