hehehehe

Like I said...partly kidding, and if I were to do it, I wouldn't mount it because I'm capable of handling it without a mount. When the day comes when I start my cruising, I will be armed, but not with an m60. With what I'm not sure but it will be at least a couple 9mms. I would like something though that I could use to sink their ship before it got to mine but I also agree that something like an M60 would be a pain to explain to customs. I just wish it wasn't that way.

I never cease to be amazed...

Isn't this the second discussion in a coupel of weeks that has focused on what kind of gun to take on a boat?

It is a Little Nuts

But it beats what I am supposed to be doing right now. My pick would be an M-203 on an M-16. The M-60 would take up room that could better be occupied by beer and other necessities. You could always dip the rounds in bacon grease to ensure the tangos are unclean and go to hell.

violence in religion...

Fred, you point out that your son read the Koran and, on his own, surmised that it was a "violent religion". I read the Koran while flying cargo in Desert Storm. Does it have some parts that incite violence? Yes. Does it have parts that encourage peace and good will? Yes. There are many parts of the christian book that encourage violence too. The christian cult hit the stage, and turned into a religion when Constantine during a VIOLENT civil war for Rome "saw the cross in the sky", and adopted christianity for Rome. The crusades were just as much christian instigated as muslum; not to mention the horrific torture of the inquisitions. You shouldn't be so quick to judge someones else's religion, while ignoring the drawbacks of others (or yours!). Violence does not come from religions...violence is deeply ingrained into our genes. Those who were violent tended to have more resources which, typically, leads to more women, which leads to the reproduction of little ones with inherited pre-dispositions to violence) religion is [in part]an ego-culturalcentric tool many different cultures have used to their own means and gains. What book do you think you would be denouncing if you had grown up in Saudi Arabia?

I am more worried about bears

in B.C. Canada. How far south do the Brown bears roam? If you take hiking excusions from Desolation Sound are you going to run into( or way from) a Brown/Grizzlie bear? What's involved to get permission to take a shot gun into Canada?

Bears, Killer Whales, and People not Like Us

With our cruising plans, I too am worried about the bears and the killer whales, and the people not like us. I thought maybe I should run up a river in the dinghy firing indiscriminately to scare the bears away before a hike. Maybe I should drop depth charges off the boat to scare off the killer whales so I don't have problems with them. Maybe we should bomb all the people not like us that we can't convert by exporting western "culture." Then the world would be safe for sailing right? But what's the point of hiking in the woods if you might not see a bear? What's the point of exploring wilderness waters if you might not see an Orca? And what's the point of sailing around the world if not to see other cultures and meet and speak with people whose ideas might be different from our own? And then there's the thought that our own society may well be one of the most dangerous in the world. I think I'll go search for a thread that talks about how one with the world people feel when they are sailing. Gary Wyngarden S/V Wanderlust H37.5 (Unarmed)

Topic closed

In my experience, a healthy board can only take so many gun posts before it becomes toxic. I think we're at our quota for this quarter, so what do you say we close the topic for now? Thanks for your cooperation. ph.
