Pipe or hose

We're considering replacing the old piping in the head, and I've read in a number of places that using pvc pipe is far superior than pooper hose in keeping odors in check. The stuff seems to have worked just fine in the house for 15 years, so other than the flex issues (and the fun that installing it would be) does anybody have any comment about pvc as a retrofit?

I replaced mine with ABS 5 years ago.
ABS is the black stuff.
Much thicker than PVC which is white.
Using rubber hose as flex joint where needed.
No problem at all.
Just make sure it can flex.

BTW you can use heat gun to curve ABS or PVC.
Stuff some sand in the pipe to prevent kinking.

Wrapping hose in the metallic tape used in the HVAC duct industry should make it impermeable to odor saturation.

There's no way in the 270 that the hoses could be wrapped with anything, there just isn't room through the bulkheads.

I'll second the ABS pipe & hose as flex joints. Been doing it this way for two boats now and 15+ years with no smell or issues.

The installation can be a bit of a PITA but you only have to do it once.

I redid all the hose in a 270 using the new white sanitation hose, that was tough enough for me. I can't recall many straight sections for pipe runs.

How about the build up of the urine/sea water ceramic stuff in the ABS piping over 15 years? That stuff can plug a 1 1/2" hose up in a few years. Is the slicker inside surface of the ABS less prone to this stuff attaching?

The good news for the 270 is that the run itself isn't very long. The exceptional part, of course, is that you can only directly see about 11cm of pipe. (Metric sounds so much more dramatic) I'd never thought of using my heat gun to put slight bends in it. This would definitely make installation of a contiguous run much easier. Maybe. (and sorry, I did mean abs. I was playing with a pvc elbow at the time)

Heck, if I get 10 years out of it, I'll be happy.
