Pilot House C22?

I'm doing some work this winter getting ready to "live aboard" 3~4 days / week next summer with my wife and 2 young daughters.

Before you point out the insanity let me note:
  • It is a very full service marina
  • The kids are small
  • We have a backup house 15 min from the marina
  • I have permission to buy a new boat
  • I'm hoping that after a summer on a C22 the budget will go up
One of the renovations I'm planning is a hard dodger that will connect to a cockpit enclosure for extended living space at the dock or on the hook. This is based on the assumption that it might rain some times and the C22 is on the small side inside...

I've also had suppressed visions of a fly by wire wheel steering system (because I can...) This lead to a vision of the wheel inside the dodger with the enclosure closed --> Pilot House C22 (perhaps the first one ever)

I know I don't have the energy or time to actually build a fly by wire wheel steering system but thinking about it gave me another thought. If I have a dodger and a tiller extension is it still the first pilot house C22?

As to the actually planned renovations i am adding a new "enclosed" head, re-locating the starboard quarter-berth to the galley stowage area, adding a gimbaled stove and a sink forward, and of course the dodger/cockpit enclosure.

I'll post pics as available.

Your idea is not that far off. Here is a couple photos of a nice dodger someone sent me,(sure wish I could remember), and a photo of my latest contraption. It's a wireless remote that interfaces with my Raymarine Autohelm. It was $120. and works flawlessly. It allows me to stand in the companionway and when I come upon an obstruction, or see that our course will get too close to another boat, it's "click-click" and we're on a new course to clear, then once clear, "click-click" and we're back on course. The dodger can easily attach to a bimini, and with some side curtains for the bimini, your sailing in comfort when it rains, and more room with an enclosed cockpit at night. It's on my list for getting the boat ready for retirement when we plan on doing some extended cruising on our MK-II version C-22. We already have a comfortable head with privacy, comfortable quarter berths, several cooking options, cabin heater, and other modifications to make the boat comfortable.

Chris,

No, although the remote looks the same. I've recently seen the "Mad Man Marine" unit. The "Sea Talk" box is different on mine. I bought it on eBay, came from Argentina.

I cannot remember where I saw it but I saw a picture of a cat 22 with a wood pilot house built on it. Just remember some comments about not sailing it in harsh weather conditions. Looked weird but man sure gave you a lot more room to stand! Sorry I don't have a pic.
