On my boat everything is removeable
I have a 1999 Hunter 380 and everything is accessable for maintenance or replacement by panels, hatches, or doors or lockers. In fact, it took me two years to figure out why my starboard stern hatche was sealed and bolted on while the port was molded into the boat. It finally dawned on me that I can remove that hatch and take out my waste and fuel tank should I ever need to do that. If I had any complaints it would be that several of the wireing runs or tubes are pretty full--it has been work adding more wires for accessories.I looked at a Halberg-Rassy 40 footer at the boat show and noticed that if I wanted to change the winches to a size bigger (so my wife could handle the sails), I would have had to cut the wood off of the ceiling. When I mentioned this to the salesman, he just shugged his sholders and said it was a man's boat. Why change the winches? I think modern manufactorers of todays sailboats do a lot of thinking before they start building. Todays boats are a damn site better than they were in the fifties.Les
