This is a picture of the infamous h23 below the deck furler. Yes, it was more work than just shortening the forestay and adding link plates but I think it looks better and gives me the maximum amount of sail area. I’ve read about people having all kinds of problems putting the furler in the anchor well but mine works flawlessly.

Another view of the fuler

This picture show how I fiberglassed a new lip on the opening that I cut to accept the furler. This made the door look like a factory job as well as addding back all the strength that I lost by cutting the hole.

Here's one more showing the CDI unit

With the CDI unit it's as easy as removing two screws and turning the drum 180% to get the line to come out the front of the anchor locker. I then put a Harken block on an eye strap using two of the exsisting bow pulpit screws for the turning block, two Schaefer stantion furler blocks help route the line back to the cockpit.

One more with the doors open

The only real hassle to having the furler in the anchor well is that putting the pin and ring-ding in is a little more of a challenge in that tight area. I added another shackel to the bottom of the drum to make it easier.

advice.

John: These photos will be out of most of our view in the next few days. In the future you may want to consider posting them on the Hunter Photo Forum where they will live in infamy. Then you can just post the link to the photo forum in the future and the pictures will live together in a storyboard

Thanks for the advice Steve

Thanks for the advice. I've never posted any thing there before but I guess it's self explanatory.

John...Job Well Done!!!

John, Thanks for the photo and write-up. You did a great job on fiberglassing the anchorwell sidewalls to match the radius of the cut-out. I must have this modification on my boat next year....great winter project. Just finished painting the mast on #551 and have yet to install cushions...thanks again. The kitty loves the cushions, and sleeps on top of them regularly. I'll call next trip in Indy and maybe see you all later this summer @ Put-In-Bay.
