Back in the winter months i posted an question on installing an swim platform onto the stern of my 1981 30ft hunter . Heres an picture of platform , that i made. its made of 1.25" mahogany that i`ve oiled, and stainless steel for the framing ,with ss chain, thats made to hinge up,so it doesn`t drag while under sail.It also has a diving ladder that connents to the center support bracket on bottom.I do plan to have covers made for the chains, so they don`t rub the boat while hinged up. Tell me what you think of it? ,chet

Had a similar design for our h27 but never got around to it. Had thought of wire instead of chain. It will make a perfect platform to dock the dingui and get up and down. Yours is not only functional but looks very classy. Thanks for posting.

Nice work on the transom end
I'll bet that transom curve was fun to draw, cut and finish. How did you transfer the curve to the wood?

But you mention having chain covers made? It might be more eye "appealing" if you has short segments of lifeline made up with a loop at each end, instead. With a turnbuckle adjustment set at the top of each cable to make it adjustable to any pitch of the boat.

Chet, what kind of hardware did you use for the top screw through the transom? It looks like the eye bolt is the mounting screw too?? Make sure you have large fender washers behind it on the inside of the transom to distribute the loading from those top bolts. The steel straping will not do much to distribute the pulling force from the chain - the job is pretty much on those top bolts. One thing that I've learned from my kids and my pool ladder is it can never be too sturdy. Great looking job - are you going to make any more???

The line
that is attached to the starboard side needs to be whipped. How do you latch it up? The hinges and chain suggest that you expect to do that when it is not in use. It keeps the ducks off.

You're an artist. Would you build one for me? Please? If you can't do it, would you post all your construction pictures on the photo forum? You took lots of pictures,,,,,didn't you? I'm thinking that there's lots of versatility in your design. That platform could be most any size or shape the owner wants. Cool. Time to fire-up the table saw.

For years I've been looking at a custom made teak swim platform that I took off my Chris Craft Connie and had the same thought but never saw one on a sail boat untill today and it looks great! and it would look pretty cool on the back of my O'Day. I just have to modify it a little, hmm another project for next winter

That looks great and I would love to have that on my boat. My only suggestion is like Paul. The chain looks too clunky for the fine job you did with the platform. I would also opt for vinyl coated lifeline with pelican hooks on both ends so that they can be removed when you want to avoid chafe. Having a turnbuckle for fine tuning the height adjustment may also be useful but it looks like you got the adjustmeny just right as it is. Did you make the platform or order an assembled one? I realize you custom fit the assembly for the transom curve.
