In another thread Mr Bill posted a folder from his Photobucket that contains a whole bunch of misc pic's.

And Doehunter said, "I think I might put together a scrapbook of sorts, with everyone's mod pics. then I can look at them while I'm in the boat, before I start cutting."

I thought hey, I've saved a lot of pic's too, I'll put them up in my Photobucket and share them with everyone, they're all just thrown in there, no particular order at all. I know I like to see what others have done, I hope you enjoy it!

Here it is "Others Interesting Mods Scrapbook". (596 pic's)

Hey Doug,
You're the man!
Just what I needed. Now I can take the laptop and a 12 pack and go sit in the boat and dream!
Thanks,
Jim

When I first picked up my 26S, there was a web site which just had a bunch of pictures of different peoples mods in the boats (the guy had "white" somehow in the last name??). Different people have different applications for the boats so all the different ideas on how to do things was useful - but that site went away.

Here are some of mine (captions under the pictures)

I think Sumner also had a big link list to a bunch of mods people had put up.

Top secret "red neck" head..

Plumbing to sink re-routed. The funnel is of course NOT for pissing in the cup and then draining into the funnel for "stealth" - it is ONLY to empty out those un-finished beers.:D

The site you were thinking was Bob White's, and it's gone. Someone offered to set it up on some other server but it didn't happen, it was a real loss.

At one time, I thought this site (Macgregor Owners) would be a good place for every one to put pictures. This site has a photo albums but there is no organization (only by the number of pictures in the album) and it does get used a fair amout - I haven’t checked for a while. But if your looking for mod ideas for a particular boat model, you will spend a lot of time looking through a lot of unrelated pictures.

There is also an owner’s mod section - but it also doesn’t get used very much. If you have a D or S model, you also don’t exactly know where to put the mods and there is a "redundant" C model in here which I guess is part of the reason there are almost no mods in this section. In general, everyone also does things differently - so pictures and little detail are just fine. If you want detail, use the forum..

What I think would be nice is a slightly different owners mod section where you could simply put some photo's of your particular boat - with a caption under the picture (you can currently put a caption under a picture in the albums section on this site). I.e., I could simply go to a section for example under 26S and create a "walt" photo album with all my mods - and a simple caption under each mod picture. It would be easy for me to set up - which is important. Just down load the picture then add a one or two sentence caption. It would also be easy for me to find all the 26S owner’s "mod" albums because ... they would all be in one spot.

What's the difference? You never buy beer, you only rent it ;)

Jim, take my advise, just leave all the tools outside the boat, while drinking all that beer. If you're like me after a few you might start thinking, heh, I think I'll get started on that mod right now! Not a good idea to start cutting and drilling while buzzing :D I think sometimes I get my best ideas after a few, or maybe I only think that after I had a few

Doug,
We think alike!
I probably will sail it like it is for a while. I will begin customizing by doing what I can that doesn't require drill, cutting, fiberglass!
But sitting a scheming over a few beers is one of my hobbies!

I agree with you Walt it would be nice to have the ability to search on a particular model and find documentation about modifications other people have done to their boats. I really like this forum as well as trailersailors.com, for all the great dialogue that goes on specifically related to our boats. But unfortunately the ability to catalogue mods is not that great.

For those of you who are not aware, that other board, macgregorsailors.com, which most agree caters more to the motorsailor models X's & M's, does have a nice mods section. I think it has the desired features you mentioned Walt. Even though that site is frequented mostly by motorsailors, it's really for all Macgregor and Venture owners, but IMO there's usually not much interesting dialogue going on there about the older boats. But we can change that! If you look under the "Forum" heading, there is a special "Macgregor/Venture Discussion" forum. I like to check all three sites to see if there is any interesting discussions going on. Unfortunately there's usually not much going on with the older models there. So maybe at least we could all start using the "Mac Mods" archive there much more

Sometime ago I noticed there was a few, but very few mod postings of the older Mac's and Venture's, so I tried to encourage others to post their mods there. You can easily browse the "Mac Mods" section. If you create your own login, you get more capability. You can browse by model, year, category, and key words. I posted a bunch of my own mods there, look under 26S. You can even click on "My Mods" which will bring up a list of all your mods you posted.

So, if you haven't already done so, check it out! And please, post your mods.

Here's a couple examples of my mod's posted there.

About 3 years ago I took some things to our local recycling dump and next thing I knew, I was butt up reaching for these 2' x 4' 1/2 sheets of clear acrylic. Just finished using two 1' x 8" cuts as shelf brackes for an older VHF radio and an am/fm/cd/mp3 radio. Mounted them high as possible on the saloon - head wall. I frosted them with my hand sander and 120 grit. Rounded off the edges and corners but left the under shelf braces clear. The piano hinges have 12 total holes (6 on each side). I love finding free stuff that I can give a new life too but now I'm looking at 2' x 7' of the clear acrylic in my garage and my mind is going crazy with plans for it.
Curious if anyone else has used this material for boat projects.
