Pics of V3175

Hi Gang.
As promised I took and posted a few pics of Vega 3175 which I shall
name Gala. It's unusual to get a used boat with no name, but to say
that the previous owner was ignorant of the traditions of the sea
would be to understate the case considerably.
Nevertheless, here they are:

Gala @ AndyT13

She was much abused, but I shall pour on the love until she shines
like the top of the Chrysler building. They're only 80 or 100k so
they shouldn't take long to load.

Now a very general question. I want to get a depth finder and it's
qualifications should be a)inexpensive and b)I don't want to drill a
hole in the boat to mount a transducer. Anyone have any experience
with such a thing?

Another question: Gala has two holes below the water line that were
glassed up. They look like what would have been drain plugs (on the
starboard side near the rudder. Anyone have these? I'd like to put
proper drain plugs (instead of a bung glassed over). Size? Type?
Manner of mounting?
Thanks!

Hi Paul

Vega Spares are in the UK. Doloads of bits just for the Vega. Have a look at
the UK Vega Website (www.albinvega.co.uk) where you can download a
catalogue. You can contact me at steve@... or I keep an eye on
Yahoo Group (as most will tell you!). Anything from Engine replacements to
bilge drain plugs. I have had a Vega since 1991 and have tried to source,
design and manufacture as much as possible for the Vega.

Cheers

Hi Andy, Do you fish? If so consider a fishfinder instead. It will also tell
you the depth and can indicate the bottom conditions; mud, sand or rocks.
Many of them have a provision for mountoing on the transom. Personally
though I'd rather know what's in front of the boat! Transducers can be
epoxied to the inside of the hull but need to look straight down. Also the
beam they send is cone shaped so consider the keel getting in the way. Ours
is with a through hull and mounts in the locker below the clost across from
the head. Don't be afraid of cutiing a hole in the boat for this. It's a
tried and true thing and fairly easy to do. Walt, S/V#120 Lyric
