On my 85' H31 (2gmf engine)I am looking for advice on the best way to remove the pickup tube in my fuel tank (19 gallons, plastic) to inspect/clean the end of the pickup tube screen. There is a nut that holds it in place. I am worried about how to put (tighten) it back with no access from inside of the tank.

Let me Know

Let me know how you solve it. I need to check mine as well and have pondered how to deal with it... Access is real bad around the tank and the last thing I want is a big diesel leak because of an improperly tightened fitting. Email me at scottbe@aol.com Thanks

Rafi; It's quite easy to remove the pick tube from the tank. Remove the fuel hose, and just unscrew it. When replacing it, put teflon tape around threads to prevent any possible leaks, it is at the top of the tank so it's not really a problem. When the pickup tube is removed, take out the little screen and toss it in the garbage. Dirty fuel clogs it and stops the fuel from flowing. You should have agood fuel filter, other than the one on the engine, in line between the tank and the engine. I used to have fuel starvation problems untill I threw out the screen and installed a good inline filter. Happy sailing. regards, Mac Lindsay sv Kitkatla 1984 H31
