Pick up hose for anchor washer

The previous owner of my yacht Installed a deck wash pump, but didn't get around to finishing it. I need to attach a hose that would go over the side into the water to pick up the water to hose the anchor when coming up covered in mud etc. Any ideas on what to use to put into the water I assume it will need a weight on it to hold it down under the surface. A photo of your setup would be appreciated please. Thanks

Pump and wiring may not last long in anchor locker. I put a thru hull under the head sink, pump in the cabinet, ran reinforced hose up to anchor locker with waterproof switch there to turn pump on/off.

Looks like all he PO did was install 4 screws.
The pump is not meant to be exposed to elements.
If its nut already ruined, remove it now.
As stated, it goes inside, with a through hull fitting.
I suggest you get someone knowledgable about installing through hulls.

The pump actually works and is wired to a switch near the switch board. I did put a hose onto the inlet and it pumped water from over the side. When I first saw it I thought that it would be broken from the look of it bet it does work. Thought I would be able to use it from there until it does croak it then do it properly as you suggest with a new pump. Could I hook it up to the existing sink drain that goes thru the hull in the Pullman cabin as we do not use this sink at all. Also were would you suggest having the hose go thru to the out side, Thru the bulkhead into the anchor locker or thru the deck? Cheers

Will not last longer from salt elements and not cheap for new pump so I tee into the head thru hull and ran plastic hose up under the vee berth into the anchor locker with hookup for spray hose and switch for pump under my 12 volt panel with red light and fuse and pump will work when sprayer is opened and been working great 5 years but pump getting corisson on it being inside the boat.

I would use an inlet, not a drain.
You could use a "Y "valve as shown in the other post,
As far as where the outlet is, whatever works best.
These pumps are expensive. Take it out of your anchor locker ASAP

OR
you could just drag the anchor just below the water surface as you motor away from the anchorage till it is clean. I've found that the mud remaining is "really stuck on" and does not foul the deck. It falls off into the water on its own after drying.
This works well with an anchor spirit (which I believe the 44 has)

I have 100' ft of chain and when in mud it's not just the anchor full of mud but the chain also and as I have my windlass pulling up the anchor I have the anchor wash down doing it's job rinsing off a lot of mud other wish before I had the wash down the mud was all over the anchor locker and even the bow.
I even have a hookup for the wash down at the stern the stern and when I am at fresh water hookup I give everything a rinse with fresh water when ever back at the dock and the anchor wash at the stern has come in handy when the dinghy gets sand or other dirt on it or the stern gets dirty with what ever and I know it's salt water but as soon as I get to a dock I rinse off with fresh water.
On my 07 H-36 all the thru hulls are one place under the steps and that's where the pump is teed into head pickup and nice switch for pump under the nav station and been working great and very handy,the install was not to bad but now just turn on switch and grab the hose and ready to use.
My photo's are home on external hard drive which I forgot while traveling up north for 3 month's.
