not worth a poop

PHRF ratings differ from east to west, north to south, open water and protected, spinnaker and not, modified or one design...... Theres to many varables to create a worthy database.... A good example, The 22 is rated 286 without a spinnaker 270 with, for inland waters, west coast. 276 in some southern areas, My MKll 22 was bumped to a 261 with a spinnaker. The same boat, 100 miles south has been rated 276.... each PHRF body has the right to rate for thier area......

but you need to start somewhere

i understand what you are saying but you need to start somewhere when comparing boats . i have raced under portsmouth? where its like bowling and each person had their own handicap per se. id prefer phrf and if the locals try to lower yours because you win id go race somewhere else, and if i get real competitive go one design . you cant beat a laser for the best in racing . and no one will try to take away a win because of an "unfair" phrf . happy sailing mg
