Does anyone know how to get the PHRF Rating on my Hunter 25? It is a shoal draft (3ft), no Spiniker and all the standard measurements for the 1980 Hunter 25. Plan to enter a race this weekend. Thanks, Dave

List

The link below gives contact info for all of the PHRF organizations. The "PHRF of South East Florida" looks like the one in your area. You will have to contact them and see if they can get you certified that quickly. They also have their own web site with all the forms you need to fill out: http://www.phrfsef.com/ Good luck!

Wow!

Looking through the certificate list on that web site, it appears that you have some interesting boats in your area!!! I didn't know that Roy Disney was a sailor! I wonder if he has Mickey & Donald & Pluto for crew? (Though with 72' boat and a -126 rating, his crew is probably a bit more professional...)

Sorry, wrong organization

Sorry, I misread your original e-mail. Thought you were from Miami for some reason. The one you want is the East Coast Sailing Association PHRF (Melbourne, FL). They also have a web site -- see link below.

2002 PHRF Handicaps

I would need a little more info to narrow down the ratings for you. The 2002 book has ratings for Shoal Draft, Inboards, Outboards, and "Box Top" for a 25. A standard shoal draft rates from a low of 222 in the mid-Atlantic to a high of 240 in Eastern Conn. Florida Suncoast has one at 228, and SE Florida has one at 234. A shoal draft box top has one rated at 243 in the Gulf, and a shoal draft inboard at 231 on the Florida Suncoast. Those were base ratings, and to that you would add time for such things as roller furling (6 seconds), and a fixed prop (3 seconds a blade). If this is confusing, don't feel bad. Ratings are different from place to place, and are given by your local PHRF rating board. However, many clubs will assign their own for club races. To get an "official" PHRF rating, you must apply for a certificate from your local ratings board. You are allowed to offer circumstances that may increase or decrease your rating, and that can change year to year. If you just need a quick rating for a club race, then I would guess it would be between 228-234, plus any added things like prop and furling. Again, if there have been changes to the rig or sail plan, keel or other parts of the boat, the rating can vary. I hope this helps more than it hurts. Steve

To Doug T ."Roy Disney" ..

Hey Doug, I live and race in the North West. Roy Disney's old boat ..Which is newer than my 1985 40 Hunter Races here in the Seattle area. It is now named "UNION" Even Roy's OLD boat is a threat to any RACER. Even an average crew on "UNION" is back at the dock ..WAY BEFORE anyonr else ..But ofcourse his PHRF corrects for its SPEED! Unions Main probably cost $25,000. Tony Re Skipper "Re-Treat" 1985 40 Hunter
