I am trying to establish a PHRF for my Hunter 336. I would appreciate any information from anyone, boat owner, race committee, phrf rep, who has already established a rating for this model. As Steve indicated in his response re the Perf for the H 28.5, I have to submit as much info as possible about my boat to my local committee. This is one piece of information I have been asked for. Thanks Jurek Just A Numma Girl Kingston (Ontario not Jamaica unfortunately)

Give MORE!!!

I will look up the 336 in the PHRF book for you as soon as I can, but you should have a number in mind that you think is fair prior to going to the board. Then get the numbers and figures to back it up. It is much harder, and slower, to raise a rating once it has been established. Typically, 3-6 seconds a year is all that you could expect. That would take quite a long time to bring up a rating that was very low to start with. I have found through my research that Hunter's ratings are typically 9-12 seconds under a comparable Catalina. With the same basic specs, the Catalina gets a better rating. The arguement I heard for the last couple years is that not enough Hunters race to get ratings. I have argured back that they don't race because their ratings are too low to be competitive. Get more info before you go to the board. I can help feed you some if you want. 336 phrf

A quick internet search shows that base ratings are between 144 & 147 depending on the area of the country. Non-spinnaker ratings hover int he 159 area.

Many thanks Pete, Steve and Bill for so rapidly responding to my inquiry with your numbers and helpful suggestions. Steve, I'm working on those numbers and will seek help when I get to that stage.

PHRF Book...

Now that I have my book in front of me, the 336 ranges from a low of 135 to a high of 153. Most are around 144. There are only 15 boats listed, and the data is not that good, with only 4 from last year. Three of the those four have first year data and the fourth is second year. I think you could have a good case for reviewing the rating if you want to give it try. Keep my E-mail address and let me know when your ready. Steve

For reference in Lake Erie, you will find that the handicap is 159 PHRF and 162 JAM. Click on Base Handicaps and search under Hunter.
