Re: 340 PHRF
There are very few H340 boats in the US with a PHRF rating. Maybe only one other. For that reason, it is difficult to get agreement on the correct rating. Lake Michigan PHRF gave our H340 a 165 spinaker PHRF rating but our local racing group (MORF) insisted that our rating should be closer to 150. Our feeling is that the 165 rating is probably more accurate, if not still slightly low. MORF seemed to confuse the H340 with the H34 and didn't compensate our rating for the disadvantages compared to other boats, such as maximum 105-110 jib vs. 155 on other boats, no backstay, etc which affect performance. At a 150 rating, and with the boat modified for racing, (e.g., kevlar sails), our boat performed well but could not compete with the J-30s, which had a 138 rating. Mike
