I have been given a PHRF rating of 189 for my 1985 28.5. How about the rest of you racers, what is your rating? I have the lowest rating in the whole fleet. Hanked on headsails, 2 blade fixed prop, fin keel,no whisker pole (I bought one this morning, no more downwind nightmares). I am just curious. Thanks Scott

Rating

I think 187 was quoted on this board some time ago. I think 189 is about right.

Just checked the sites listed in the archives. A 28.5 has a 183. You may wish to keep the one you got from your fleet.

Region

I believe ratings are regional, taking into account your boats performance in certain conditions. A Hunter 30 in a moderate to windy area would get a lower rating then the same boat in a light air area. I could be wrong but this is how it was explained to me. I'm waiting for my official rating now (old Hunter 30) but I expect in MA it will be close to 200. - I'll take it and pray for some heavy wind. Good Luck to everyone this season. Joe M.

regions vary

I have had the boat rated in three regions (28.5). Chesapeake 189, Lake Erie was something like 203 and here in RI I a up to 220. All these are J.A.M. ratings. In each region there were other boats that stayed close with the ratings. Catalina 30's an J24's. In RI they give credit for a lot more things then other areas. roller furling 3 secs, fixed prop, 6 secs, shoal draft 6 secs. ect. I have tried to do some things different this yer and hopeo see a difference. Mostly a more experienced crew. Looking forward to swaping stories. Our first race is the 22nd.

florida rating

rating here 192 with fixed 2 blade prop with 150% jib, spin. we add 12 sec for no spin, 6 sec for using 110%. keel makes no difference in rating but does in sailing performance. we race year round, good luck to you later, "maverick"

Chesapeake PHRF Rating

Mine rates at 189. The base rating is 183 and I get a 6 sec. credit for the roller furler. I have a folding prop and a 155% genoa. The other replies are correct, the rating varies by area.

H280 gets 228

I was given a 228 for a H280, located on Long Island South Bay. This is with no spinn, 110 Head, fixed two blade prop. Adding a as-spinn this year expect a 6 sec hit on the rating. good luck

response to 28.5 phrf rating

THE CLUBS I RACE WITH AND AGAINST ON THE ALBEMARLE SOUND TRIED TO LOWER MY RATING TO A 183 THIS YEAR, FROM 189 LAST YEAR. I MANAGED TO CONVINCE THEM TO LEAVE IT AT 189. MINE IS A SHOAL DRAFT, WITH A FOLDING PROP, AND 150 HEAD SAIL WITH ROLLER FURLING. YOUR RATING SOUNDS A LITTLE LOW. I FEEL LIKE THESE HUNTER BOATS ALL HAVE LOW RATINGS. THEY SHOULD BE AROUND 200. I ALSO HAVE THE LOWEST RATING IN MY CLASS AND HAVE A HARD TIME POINTING WITH THE OTHER BOATS. ANY ADVISE ON HELPING IT TO POINT WOULD BE APPRECIATED. KEITH
