I invite all to post some photos of their vega's. I created an album
for Aquila and posted 3 photos plus a photo of another vega that has
the pacific ligt windpilot which I like.

Greetings All,

I recently refinished the inside of my Vega. I stripped out most
of the wood and removed the hull liner. The only wood I did not
remove was the aft bulkheads for the head/hanging closet (they looked
kind of structural for the mast beam) and the cabinets aft where the
stove/sink are. Everything else came out easily.

I refinished all of the wood in my garage. Of course the wife was
not COMPLETELY happy about that, but she is happy with the final
result. I also made new covers for all cushions in the cabin and the
v-verth, along with new curtains. That 7th grade home economics
class finally came in handy 30 years later.

Also replaced the hull liner. The boat had a slight mildew smell
to it. Replacing the hull liner completely removed that smell. Plus
it looks great (Boat US catalog, page 542, Irish Tweed, Light Sand,
12 yards). Good stuff, looks great (somewhat pricey). Hull liner
went in easy enough, spray adhesive and three hands (my sister
provided the third).

Started the motor for the first time this past weekend. Batteries
were near dead. My son only had to crank it three times before she
turned over (on the first one I made him crank it for a few minutes
to get the oil flowing). Ran like a champ for 20 minutes.

Next up is the electrical system.

Good morning, I am considering mounting an hot-air heater (Webasto) in my
series 1 Vega.
There is already a nice duct running on PS under the bench to the forward
cabin, could I use that for blowing hot air to the front cabin??
Thanks for thinking with me,
Hielke

Hi Scott
Looked at your photo's! Great job.
My Vega's cabin interior (except for the ceiling which has white
gelcoat)
is grey looks kike it has never been painted.
What did you use to paint the cabin interior?
looks so goog I'd like to do the same.
Thanksd

Hello All:

As promised, I have uploaded some pictures of the electrical upgrade to
Lyra. You will have to turn the page sideways on one close-up. As you can
see, the alternator is mounted on a bracket above the generator. An extra
pulley wheel was added to the generator and a belt drives the alternator.
The output from the generator that previously recharged the batteries
through the regulator was cut off inside the generator. It now only is a
starter motor. The alternator recharges the batteries (great and fast).
Power is distributed through a common solenoid. Both alternator and solenoid
can be purchased anywhere. And incidentally I have cleaned up all the wiring
(I was just so excited to share the pictures, I forgot it looked like a
rat's nest). And...naturally I had a couple of shots of Lyra as she sat at
the dock yesterday in beautiful British Columbia, Canada.

Cheers

There's still work to be done on both the photos and files sections of
the website but at least the photos section is now available for further
uploads. Please, be gentle!

Some of the largest photos uploaded to the group were more than 2
megabytes in size, which is way beyond necessary. At that rate, if
everyone did the same, we could accommodate a total of about 15 photos
for the whole group. The other problem is that, to many of the members
who don't have a broadband connection, downloading 2 megs is often not
worth the time it takes. If it's feasible, try to limit the size of
your photos to about 100K. But, if you're not familiar with editing
photos, not to worry, it's pretty easy and I'll continue to take care of it.

Thomas:

You may already be aware of this feature, but in case you're not, here goes:

There is an option, when uploading photos, for the uploader to delete the original large photo and leave only the screen size and thumbnail photos Yahoo automatically creates. This leaves much more room for others to upload their pictures.

- Upload your photo in the usual manner.

- Go to the "Photos" section and click on your photo to see the image (Yahoo screen sized image will appear).

- At the top right corner of the picture is the option "View: Screen size / Full size"

- Click on "Full size"

- When the full size picture loads there is the option to "Delete Full Size Only" at the top center of the picture.

- Delete it, leaving only the Yahoo screen size and thumbnail images on the Yahoo site.

As only the uploader is the only one who can view the original full size images anyway, there is no sense in leaving them on the Yahoo site.

Hope this helps.

Peter.
