I had pics of the rig up but they did'nt copy from the camera. The boat in the background is an Oday International Tempest 22, and its a rocket. The boys will be out in it this weekend. patrick

Is that the model they call Ruebin's nymph? It appears broader in the beam than mine.

Nice looking work! They aren't instant when you finish them like that... :)

Neat boats, those International Tempests. Very much ahead of their time.

i've only had the i. tempest out once last fall. for me it was unbelievable. one finger stearing and we surfed the whole time. I am 220# and my son is 180#. I have'nt flown the spin yet, no pole and i don't know how.

I find that it rows well and is not prone to shipping water but it is a bit tippy. I haven't rigged a sail yet.

Sounds great! You guys are probably just the right size for the boat. Might be fun to see if you can find a local fleet. They could help with the spin. If not, the technique is very similar for all "traditional" two person dingies (eg 470, FD, 505). It is kind of like riding a bike -- seems darned unlikely at first but gets quite natural with a little practice.

If you like literary allusions, try 'Lolita' for a name.

Not being hung up or judgmental of other's preferences, but being a Christian and an Episcopalian, (I think that may not be an oxymoron) I offer that my practice (which may not be best, but one I am fond of) is to offer a simple prayer:
"God, please bless this vessel and protect those who sail on her." Then, offer a toast "To fair winds and well found vessels", and tip your glass and drain it.

thanks Chris, that is what i was after. But literary illusions-"Lolita"? I don't get it. I am a straight forward thinking guy, slow on the uptake and a bit nieve. I was thinking of maybe Nymph-o, but my girl poo-poed that one!

i thought of "finished" but it never really is. I am gonna make some gear pouches to go along the bulkheads, and maybe a sunbrella spray hood for the bow forward of the mast support, and......

Lolita is perfect for you ...

If you were thinking along the lines of nympho. Do a wiki on Lolita and you will soon understand.

Hey Patrick,
Glad to see that you have stuck around and are building up your flotilla or fleet of boats.
That O'Day does look like a rocket and you will enjoy trying out the spinnaker when you get around to it. I have a 19' Lightning which is an older design but a racer as well and I can tell you that you will fly (or plane) when you get that spinnaker up.
As for naming your Bolger Nymph, I know that this is a little 'high brow' but I just love words and I know this one word which might be appropriate without being as obvious as 'Nympho'.

well the launch is done and i;m over it. The boat floats but is very tippy. I suppose it would be better with some weight in it, It is kike a canoe. I go to the back and i neerly swamp it with my 220# lard but. I put up the sail but there was'nt enough wind. i thought it would be a good trainer for the little grandkids but its prob not suited for it? I need some more time in it i guess to see how it works out.

I found that mine was/is tippy on the flat bottom but when she heels a bit she stiffens up. Like you said you nearly swamp it. It was designed with the longitudinal seat so that the people load could be balanced.
