My partner and I just bought a 25 foot O'Day and are really happy with it, but we want to install the boom vang and can not find any photos of the installation or installation hardware. Have been to West Marine and tried to describe the keyhole attachment on the boom and seem to just get these blank glazed stares...Is there anyone out there with a digital camera that can help a girl out? Thank you! Robin

have searched also

I would like to do the same but have also been unable to find anything on what attaches to the boom in the keyhole slot. If you find out I would be thankful for any info . Happy sailing, I think the Oday 25 is a great all round boat. Mine is a 76 model with centerboard.

If there is a Key Hole in a ...

stainless plate, then you need a small metal ball at the end of a cable, which is attached to one end (side) of a block and tackle system. The ball slides into the key hole on the boom and the other end (side) of the block and tackle system attaches to the foot of the mast. Where you can find a ball and cable is another question. I hope this helps a little.

Photos?

Ok, I read about the ball and cable set up and have not found a boat store that has one, including D&R Marine. My partner and I are working on an alternative. But if there is anyone out there who has a digital camera and a functioning boom vang with the key hole plate on their vang, I would still like to see how the darn thing gets set up. Rod, when we invent the alternative to the cable system, you will be the first one we contact!

I gave up

I finally gave up trying to find something that would work in the keyhole. I took it off, and put on a boom bail instead. It works, but obviously doesn't look "factory". If you come up with an alternative, I'd sure like to get "on your list".

Boom Vang

I just installed a Boom Vang on my 25' O'Day. I won't have my digital camera back for about a week, but when I do I'll snap some pix and send them along to you. The description of the boom vang offered by Tee Pee (???) is correct. I believe the cable with a ball on the end can be made up for you by some of the larger Marine stores -- I'll check that here and let you know. I'll also provide some dimensions in the event you need to have one made.

Don't rip off the keyhole! I have an O'Day 23 with exactly the same key-hole boom vang fitting on the boom. Rudy at D

here is the photo of the keyhole

This is the keyhole plate on my Daysailer II. BTW it is originally for a Laser, according to my chandler.
