Photo request

Fellow sailors, if anyone has, or knows of someone who has, a Yamaha 9.9HP outboard, I have a request for photos.

I would like that have images of the port side of the motor with the upper cowling off so I can see all the tubes exiting the cylinder crankcase. I also would like to have an image of the back of the motor.

If anyone can help me, please PM me and I will send you my email address.

I am currently in Afghanistan and will be returning home in July and need to work on my 9.9. I have books but need images to help me visualize what I am going to be doing, mainly flushing out the cooling channels.

UUUhhhhh here is what our 9.9 looked like when we were cleaning out the passages.. The thermostat area and the water jacket around the exhaust ports had pugged pretty bad and the only way we could clear it was to pull the head.. just to the left of the cylinders.. the round holes are the exhaust passages.. the little oblong passages were solidly plugged.. If you look at the corresponding passages in the head, you can see that they are solidly plugged.. took a small spike and hammer and carefully unplugged.. The engine had sat for 6 years after a water immersion.. Is fine now.. This is an OHC 9.9 high thrust .. I don't have any pix of the asembly, but I hope someone else can fill that for ya.. Otherwise, I will be there sometime in the next week or so and can shoot some pix.. Best To Ya, Brian..

Kloudie1, thanks for those pictures. I hope mine is not as clogged. If it is, I have my work cut out for me. I do not have the confidence to dismantle the motor and put it back together again in the 2 weeks I have for R&R. I hope that I can find a way to clear the channels.

I wish you luck, Brian.. We made probes and pressured with air and did a lot of stuff before going the "disassembly" route. There are a lot of tees and ells and joints that want to catch debris... We still have occasional problems with spiders and or dirt daubers plugging the outlet on the starboard side.. If you are lucky, that will be the trouble with yours since it is in fresh water.. Again, Best to ya ! ..

merlinuxo, thanks. I have two service manuals that give the breakdown of the motor. Only one give me the actual water path within the motor so I now know where to probe and prod and pour salt-away in and hopefully it is a simple problem.

Kloudie1, I operate in saltwater, Pacific Ocean. So it is more likely a blockage. Seems after the motor has run for more that 30 minutes the water flow starts to slow down. So it has to be either in the intake (i don't think so though) or possibly the thermostat is dead, or at the exhaust plate. I will find this bugger and I will be victorious. LOL
