Good question

Well, my observation is that start-up buisnesses and sailing don't mix too well... and neither does my family, for that matter. I think my next boat will be in the mid-30's, a good size for 3-7 days with a kid or two. I charted a late-model C-34 this summer and was reminded of how easy it is to handle and sail a boat that size, short-handed. Even docking was a snap. As much as I love the 40-footers, I think they do require more, skill, crew, and time than I'll want to invest. The majority of my time as an owner was spent as a liveaboard, and I found it very hard to own the 450 and live somewhere else. It requires a lot of time to de-bug a new boat, and the 450 is a lot of material to maintain, too. that worked out fione when it was my home, but to have that AND a home was something of a burden. If I were to live aboard again I might lean to the 460 with that 3rd cabin/utility room. The aft cabin of the 450 is an amazing condo, but the aft cockpit design puts you closer to the water, a big plus. I suspect that will be a few years from now, when I'm ready to hang up my keyboard and spend my days fidlling with shackles and gel coat again. Nice of you to ask!

Dock side office

With the new G-4 Macs being so small I thought you could keep them in the dock box and the office on the boat

Houseboat?

We've actually considered buying a large lake-style houseboat, converting the living spaces to office spaces, and mooring it on Lake Union. Would that be cool or what?

Only problem...

is that you'd probably find lots of more interesting things to do than working ;.) Everytime I plan on getting a little work done while I'm on the boat I end up working ON the boat. Oh well, life is hard...

Even Better Idea!

Phil, A good solution is to get Bly to buy a nice boat that you could just use anytime you wanted and let her do the maintenance! :) You probably know better than anyone the angst of buying/fitting out/maintaining a large boat unless you have lots of time to devote to it. Thats the beauty of a smaller boat thats ready to go sailing when you are! It hurts to think about someone who has done so much to promote sailing in general and Hunters in particular being boatless!! You can come sail Honey Bear anytime you want!
