I created a thread earlier called "Garmin GPS 76CSX's marine basemap". I have just noticed that I had a spelling error. I transposed 2 letters in the word buoy into bouy. I tried to edit it, but the edit button is missing. Is there something different with this thread? I should be able to re-edit my own post. Help.....! Thanks.

Here's how to edit your post

Hi JC, To edit your post, you must be logged in at the time you make the post. This is the only way the server knows that you are the same user who made the post. If you're logged the forum menu screens welcome you by name. That's a good thing to check before you post anything. ph.

But, how come it knows my name and ....

puts my info in the left column? I have forgotten to sign on before posting, only once a long time ago, when I just joined the forum. When I see all the blank fields pre-filled, I assume I am already signed on. And it said welcome with my name. I didn't have to fill in my name, home port, etc. Hmmm... interesting.

You may have lost...

your cookies. :) No, really, check to see if you have a cookie from Sailboatowners.com. I believe one of them will be 'uid' which might be you login information.

Yes, I too thought I had lost my cookies.

when I had this problem, I double checked, and luckly, I didn't lose my cookies. At least, I still had 1 cookie from sailboatowners.com. It had 8 lines of info in it. If you look at my original post on "Garmin GPS 76CSX's marine basemap", it had all of my info on the left. Identical to the info in all of my other postings. Yet the edit button was not there. I guess we will never know the answer to this. I have been in the computer business since the '70s, and I have often said to my wife, "you just can never trust these thingies" ;d ps. I think the last time I lost my cookies was the time when I was out, and I mean way way out, the sea was not too friendly, and I had to go down and cook dinner. I thought I was going to be ok, but.....*pop....

More than one way

In our patched-up, evolutionary system there's are different cookies that hold your name and home port for the form. The one to look for is named uid, that's your forum login. All that said, yes, you can't trust these things! :)
