Just saw where Phil Harris, captain of the crab boat Cornelia Marie, died last night, the result of a stroke. Feel like I know all those guys after watching the show for a long time. They earn every penny they make, but have to love that life. Bless him and his family, and may he have much calmer seas than he had in life.

Amen to that. Those guys have big ones for sure, but it beats saying "do you want fries with that" for a living. He seemed like a really down to earth guy.

There are several reality shows similar to The Deadliest Catch, (ice road truckers and swamp loggers) but those jobs are like someone who boxes up foam in a padded foam factory compared to what those guys do. I can sit down for an all day Deadliest Catch marathon 7 days a week, and all they do is catch crab on the Bearing Sea. My hats off to those guys.

Bad news.. I guess he'd escaped recently with the clot thing that they followed on the program.. too bad for that guy.. It was looking like his kids would be able to step up if that happened.. strange how ya almost feel like you know those guys.. I watch the series religiously and I think it is the best of the similar shows..

God bless him and his familly. I loved to watch him teach his sons, with the torture and respect of love. I will miss seeing him on the show, my wife is sick of me watching them over and over and over............

Agreed. He seemed to be a courageous and honorable man. We'll miss him.

Man, I'm sorry to hear that, he was one of my favorite skippers (the other is Sig)... but it doesn't surprise me. All those guys are walking heart attack candidates. Totally stressful job mentally and physically, dangerous work in extreme conditions and every damn one of them smokes like a chimney and drinks a gallon of coffey per day.
