some fishermen would wear a weight so that if they went overboard, they would not have to personally suffer. I guess their loved ones feelings did not count for much with them because that makes the body really hard to recover. That is one of the not so obvious benefits of a PFD. Cmc, I do not know how comfortable a weight would be but they are available at a scuba shop if you are interested. They are not mandatory and I doubt they will become a requirement. You could think of it as an isometric exercise program.I agree that the mandatory laws for safety gear are out of line with the world I want to live in. Education, however, is invaluable and part of that is listening to others experiences. Had my wife not been wearing a PFD while we were docking one morning, I would be a widower now. The only emergency at that particular time was a lack of coffee.
