I just bought a 1970 Ericson MK1, it is ready to sail although I do not have a motor at the moment. I have however been offered to be loaned a 20HP Yamaha 2 Stroke to transit it from Bowzer, BC to Mill Bay, BC here in Canada. I am not 100% sure it will fit into the transom and therefore I may have to button a 12' Zodiac to the side and tug it that way. Any suggestions before I begin this aprox 141 km adventure.

There are several BC sailers with experience in sailing your proposed route. From my reading about the area the weather window and the tide changes along the route may make your zodiac idea a risky adventure even for a skilled sailor. Certainly with favorable winds down the strait you can sail this stretch, but as you near Mill Bay piloting through the more narrow channels will put more control issues in play. Talk to folks in the Bowzer are to build a basis to make your go no go decision.

Thanks, I also have a 14' runabout with a 40 HP on standby. So when I sail on Thursday afternoon I will have with me the two stroke 20 HP, and as a back up 4 hp four stroke. If we get into any kind of "not making headway south" I will call my friend to bring out my runabout and tow it through the narrow parts between the Gulf Island and the VI.

the only spot I can think of that you have to be careful of is Bowser to Nanimo all open only haven is French creek. After Nainimo, Dods and home free take the maple bay route shorter.
