Just a quick question to anyone that's used bottom paint on their dinghy? I'm reading the can for prep and is states "Reduces paint buildup through controlled erosion" . Sounds like it's an ablative product. I often stow the dinghy on my bow using the spare jib halyard but now I'm wondering if this will come off as easy as my blue bottom paint which can be quite messy when rubbing up against it. Last thing I want is black paint all over me from bringing her aboard.

If it is ablative paint it is designed to sluff off.

I used to use MDR Inflatable bottom paint and couldn't get it for a while. I then found pettit and used it. It was awful. I easily crumbled and flaked off. I have since found MDR again and have used it for a few years. It was before and is now MUCH MUCH better paint than the Pettit. I don't ever want to use the Pettit paint again. I am VERY happy with the MDR. Just my 2 cents worth.

Hi Bob S,
I used some from WM on our roll-up inflatable and it would come off if rubbed against anything. It does work well and not so chalky like most ablatives. When rolled, we took care not to step on any flaking particals before rinsing the deck. If we had used a plastic sheet between the rolls, it wouldn't have been any mess at all. I'd use it again for that purpose since we towed it most of the summer. One pint gave me two yearly coats, a touch-up on the third, then nothing for two more years. There's still some on the bottom.
