Petite Topside Paint

Planning on painting the topside this spring. I was going to roll & tip Interlux perfection but was looking at the Petite web site this afternoon.

Anyone have any experience with EZ-Poxy 2? For a 2 part paint, the propoganda makes it seem pretty easy/foolproof when compared Interlux.

I think it's a fairly new product so I'm not sure how it holds up.

Any comments?

I don't have experience with the Petit product. Interlux Perfection, yes. For my cabin top and non-skid. (The non-skid is still looking factory new five years on. The gloss cabin top is due for a repainting however because I diluted the white Perfection with the max allowable transparent flattening agent for a semi-closs result which allowed UV to penetrate to the underlying epoxy Primecoat which turned yellow which now shows through the surface.)

Back to your question: Pre-painting, how do your topsides look?

If you can extend for a few more seasons with oxalic acid to remove staining and mineral deposits (often unseen, but which can interfere with a good buffing waxing outcome) and maybe some spot filling/painting any gouges, then followed by buffing/waxing to maintain an acceptable appearance, that would be my choice.

If you do it right, Perfection is awesome. You might find some good youtube videos on perfection. Follow the instructions faithfully. I'd be interested to hear others experience on Easypoxy2.

I've addressed the typical gel coat crazing & cracking one can expect with a 30 year old boat so the topsides are only pretty to me

I think I'll give the new Petite paint a try. The propoganda on the web site states it's more forgiving than the competition. I like forgiving.

Sounds then like it's time to make it pretty for the rest of us! Report back about your success with the Petit product.

Ive never used Pettit hull paint but have had good luck with their brush on one part cabin paint
and their one part rust inhibitor. Pettit has a good customer service dept you can telephone. Ive found them knowledgable and helpful.

Remember "forgiving" is just a term. Don't make the mistake of not doing the proper preparation!
Follow the instructions!
I'm in the process of stripping the hardware off my boat because the paint is flaking off. Guess why..... Someone didn't do the prep! They did it the quick and WRONG way!
I know us guys have trouble with, instructions and maps... Have your wife help out by dictating. She will love it.
Then give her a paint brush. Fun times for all.

I get the proper prep part, that is 85% of job..
I think the term "forgiving" has more to do with the way the paint flows. Kind of like adding penetrol to oil base paint for that smooth, brushless finish.
My Wife, paint brush, good luck with that! LOL
