You can and can't...
While you can use a genoa and a spinnaker (ASM) at the same time in a race, if both are set at the same time, you cannot use a pole on the headsail. The following is a quote from the RRS (2005-2008) Rule 50.3 (c):"A headsail may be sheeted or attached at its clew to a spinnaker pole or whisker pole, provided that a spinnaker is not set."With our spreaders set the way they are, it makes it tough to run dead down-wind, even if the wind strength supports it. I use the wing-on-wing with ASM & jib, and it lifts the bow of my 356 up very high. I send the crew far forward to balance out the boat, and she does fly. BTW, I also drop the main or pull it to centerline to keep it out of the way.Our class rules don't allow a pole on the ASM, so I cannot use it on the spinnaker in the ASM class. If there are no restrictions, then use the pole on the spinnaker while wing & wing.Make sure you have a pair of good people on board to handle the sheets, because it takes a fair amount of concentration and communication between them and the helm to keep things moving fast.Good luck,Steve
