If Peter isn't around maybe someone else will know the answer: How long does the main sheet need to be if you are planning on using your main sheet blocks with Peter's mast raising system?

I used to know that at one point but over the past couple of years I've been shortening the main sheet a little at a time to eliminate wear and now it is probably too short to use with the mast raising system.

Thanks

Thanks Peter!

Glad to hear you have evaded Davy Jones. Thanks for the info on the halyard length. I'll see what I have left when I get out to the boat this afternoon. I keep her on a mooring ball so I don't plan on stepping the mast any time soon but I suspect I'm still in need of a new sheet for it to go well for me. I know 3/8" was OEM but I have a 1/2" sheet for the main, just because it is easier to handle. It chafes at the cleat so I cut off considerably more than a foot. I probably cut off ten feet but I still might just barely have enough to tie on to but I'm going to stop by the store and buy 75' before I even go out. Then I'll have it around, just in case, the old main sheet is going on five years anyhow.

Thanks for the reply Peter, take it easy!

Good advice...

... 7/16 has to chafe less than the 1/2 line. I hadn't considered that as an option. I was considering going back to 3/8. It isn't as if 3/8 is hard to handle and it is considerably cheaper. The 1/2 line was over kill for sure.

Thanks again Peter. It's good to see that some of the old dogs are still watching the forums!

Picture of H23 Mast Raising System...

I noticed that the archived files don't include a picture of the sytem on a boat. I'm sure there used to be one because I still have a copy. I've attached it for anyone looking at Peter's sytem.
