Summer doldrums setting in, so it is time to build a list. Here are my sailing pet peeves: Sailors who leave their fenders hanging while sailing. Sailors who leave their outboards hanging in the water. Sailors who leave lines hanging in the water. Birds that poop. Spiders. Boats that NEVER leave their slips. Two-stroke outboards. October, when they drain the lake until April. Want to add to the list?

Sailors that can't or won't whip their lines.

People that complain that my boat looks like a tug with all the fenders hanging over the sides.;) Powerboaters that come down off a plane and drag a huge wake when they go by.

Don't give them any warning! just run 'em

down and claim work boat right of way. Limited maneuverability! ;)

More!!! More!!!! More!!!! %*$$

People who fly by my dock at full speed and they are only feet away from the dock! The PWC that does doughnuts only feet from my boat! Power Boaters that wait for that Absolute Last quarter second to slow down before the no wake zone!!! Those boats with engines so loud you can hear them three miles away!! (cigarette boats) Hey....btw....did you ever notice that cigarette boats stink as much as cigarettes....funny coincidence? The crabbers that through the dead fish from the trap into the water and stink up the waterway. The $&^**$^ crabber that keeps putting his pots in the darn channel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The *$$ hole that keeps throwing his cleaned fish in the dumpster at the dock (if the wind is right you smell it 100yards away). The boat yard that has unethical business practices (We all know who you are so there is no place to hide)!!!!! The &*%^$%&* people who waterski in the protected harbor that my marina is in (this is about the only time I am glad to see the swarm of jelly fish). I guess that I have a lot of pet pieves!!!! Oh well....keel drag em all and feed them to the fishies!

Generally I don't care for name-calling, but those guys who drive their pontoon boats around at night with one or two bright searchlights shining forward so they know there is more water out there - well, no name is too demeaning for them.

Cell phones...

the guys who come down to my marina and spend all their time taking to people on their cell phones. These are grown men, not kids, both power and sail. But none of them are so important that they can't miss a call, trust me. This is not a yacht club by any stretch, well maybe a "Redneck Yacht Club". Powerboaters all stand up at the dockhouse and talk, talk, talk. But several sailor friends come down and spend all their time talking to their wives who wouldn't come with them. (I know that for a fact) What's the point!?!? Stay home. Was just standing in a conversation 5 mins ago, among several of us on our pier. One of these guys just stands there talking to us, pulls his phone out and dials the misses to tell her something about a TV show. Right in the middle of our conversation, while we're standing there looking at him. Rude and henpecked...that's bad, eh? Ok, I'm done.

hell yeah

I want to add to the list. POWERcords in the water. Knuckleheads who think the finger is there to ride their boat up and then recruit some guy to help him learn because he wants to learn but then doesn't show up for another few months. repeat: boats that never leave the dock....I wanna strangle the owners. The boat cries to me each day I come home "take me out please...I got stuff growning on me and I etch" Old "sailors" who've been sailing for 30+ years but don't have the common sense god gave a cow but because they've been doing it for 30 years they know it all. If you were dumb 30 years ago, your still dumb today with less memory. Sorry...this is spurred by an ex watch-woman who kept screaming at me because my ladder was hanging over the dock a couple in inches. She said to let it hang just inches off the dock like everybody else and if I don't change it, somebody is going to trip on it and sue me because they aren't responsible. First off, if they aren't responsible...then it's my problem and none of their business. Second, if my ladder is only hanging a couple of inches over the dock and at thigh level, then nobody will trip over that, but people will and have tripped over the ones handing 2' over the dock just inches off it. Experience doesn't make you smart. Lonely boats...did I say that already...worth repeating...get to your boats people. They need love too. RACERS...they seem to think they own the water. The racers her always start the race and end the race at a channel exit. They arrange the race to where everybody is schedule to show up at the finish line at the same time (start depends on your rating). How ******* hard is it to drag out a beer-can? ******* channel markers are not BEERCANS! How smart do you have to be to realize having 20 boats barring down on the exit of a channel is bad news? ******* boneheads! Did I say I hate racers? Worth repeating! They seem to think that if you're not a racer you don't know how to sail. Broken parts that keep me from getting out on the water. I've been out of commission for two months this year. Thank god for a dinghy. Nobody can do anything right. I just paid a shitload of money for the yard to straighten my prop, speck my shaft, align my engine, and replace my cutlass bearing. ******* boat still vibrates. Get this...the yard is saying the engine is messed up event though it's a band new yanmar with new tranny. Just spent a shitload on a new dinghy. After a week in the water it had about 50 gallons of saltwater in it. I emptied it and within 10 minutes it already had a gallon or two of water in it. Brand ******* new. In the spring I spent another big sum of money to have an expert boat repair/electrician fix my refrig. It took me 2 minutes after getting home to realize he rewired it all wrong and of course charge me extra for it. Makes you want shoot somebody. Can't anybody do anything right? Ducks....they are always shitting on the dock. Just kidding...I love the ducks. We play games together when I come home but my neighbors hate them. Ever hear ducks get it on next to your hull? Damn. When I come home the next day I give the male duck a high five :) The guy is a maniac. I'm done now. Aren't you glad.

franklin....

you are way too bitter, my man... mellow out. live and let live. Your lazy susan/steering wheel idea is flat out weird. You're not falling off the deep end are you? Perhaps it's time to get to a meeting.

Two strokes

Well, my 15HP Merc twin is just almost as quiet as the four strokes around, and weighs less than 3/4 of the equivalent four. Polluiton is a relaitve thing. What is the difference in pollution, two stroke to four?

Incidetnally,

... you might be intersted to know that low pollution engines come in the form of four strokes AND direct injection two strokes.

Powerboats that ....

pass you in front when they could have gone behind you just as easily. They come at me from miles away, I'm under sail and there is no one close by. Nine times out of ten, the powerboat will go across my bow and shake us and splash water down my forward hatch, etc., when they could have gone behind me with no splash and reduced shake. Why do they do that?

I take it back

I don't want to offend my two-stroke sailing brothers. I do think my 6hp Nissan is quieter than a 2-stroke version and the EPA has basically mandated 4-strokes due to the pollution factor. But, hey, your sailing instead of motoring so I hereby drop two-strokes from my pet peeve list. :)
