Just wonder why manufacturers like 3M don't catch on to the fact that many of us often only use a small amount of 4200 or 5200 for small projects, and make it in small tubes like Krazy Glue has started, You can buy a pack of 4 small tubes of Krazy glue instead of one big tube, then for small jobs use one whole small tube and pitch it. The last 3 projects I had to buy a "large" tube of 4200 and used only a small amount, and the next time I needed some the tube was just about solid and I had to throw away the whole thing and spend another $16 to $18 for a new tube. I admit to being a cheapskate, but would be willing to pay more per ounce for smaller tubes that mean I don't have to throw away a large tube that has gone hard.
OK i have vented, but do any of you feel the same way?
Maybe it's just the "got ya this time sucker" attitude? Don't know.

I have a tube that I have resealed several times: put vaseline in the nozzle and tighten a wirenut on the nozzle. Then tape it down with duct tape. After opening it a few days later, it is still fresh.

On my 5200 I clean the nozzle and cap, screw it on tight, stick it in a baggie and place in the fridge. It seems to help. Also, if the nozzle end seems hard and dry, I snip a corner of the end and squeeze it out.

hummmm...a shot of whiskey cost about 5 to 6 dollars a shot and last about as long as uttering the words encyclopedia of britannica...3m 5200 cost about 3 dollars for the same 1 1/2 oz and will last till the end of time ...looks to me the better value is the 3m....and as kito said in his post if you take the time to store it in the fridge it will last alot longer ...if you buy the 4 oz tube it comes with a cap to reseal it when you are done and can put it in the fridge as well .......

I am peeved about stores not offering half pints or pints of paint. I have a garage full of 3/4 full quarts. Paint is unlike 5200 that can be used on many projects. A good example is I need some bare aluminum primer for my hatch frames. All I can find is quarts or gallons. I am not removing the frames so rattle cans is out.

Woodster, the difference is that if you have bought a whole bottle of whiskey and use only a shot or two, then put the bottle on the shelf, if you come back a few months later the rest will still be good whiskey, the tube of sealant usually won't be. If booze went bad after the bottle had been opened, my shelf would have (many) "airplane" size bottles, not just regular sized ones.

I heard you can put it in a ziplock bag and throw it in the freezer to keep it fresh. Maybe it was just the fridge. Worth a try either way.

In a similar vein: I was drilling some holes in my deck and needed to seal off the core with epoxy. I have large bottles of epoxy but it's hard to get it in smaller drill holes. I then found small tubes of Loctite epoxy at Lowes with a needle nosed mixing nozzle. Just stick the nose in the hole, push the plunger and pre-mixed epoxy comes out the end. Enough to fill about 4 or 5 holes in one set of tubes. Perfect solution.

Woodster, you got me on that, (except that I am a vodka man instead of a whiskey one.)
