I replaced the head and its hoses, but it leaks badly where the outlet hose attached to the elbow from the head. It seems that the inside diameter of the hose or the outside diameter of the elbow are not quite right. Has anyone else dealt with this? Can it be remedied using silicone sealant on the elbow? I thought later that maybe the clamp is the problem. It is used. Maybe it was binding instead of tightening.

Thanks.

It would be rare if the hose and head outlet do not match since they should both be 1 1/2". It's an industry standard. Instead of silicone, try Rector's Pipe Dope available at hardware stores, or even Lanocote. Also replace the hose clamps.

Totally happened to me this spring. The pipe I had bought seemed to be too stiff to compress around the elbow. I wound up building the elbow up with rescue tape till it was snug. I had thought about heating the hose with a heat gun while tightening the clamp as another solution too, but went the tape route first since I had some sitting there at the time.

May be deformed hose. Got enough to cut off 2 or 3" ?
Previous boat (N30) holding tank inlet was smaller OD than std. I did as suggested above and wrapped with tape, then lifecalked it as well. Use good clamps.

I fixed it! I put a generous coat of clear silicone on the elbow, slid the hose over it, set the silicone set up and then tightened the clamp on it.
