Persistant Leak

Eight years old and still chasing a persistant leak around my 1995 H29.5.... Last season leak appeared in v-berth, which seemed to be entering through one of the stanchions..reseated, and leak continues. Leak was limited to the v-berth area, and closer examination suggested water may actually be entering the boat through the hole drilled into the toe-rail to receive the male-end of the anchor locking pin. Has anyone else experienced this problem? It appears (strange as this may seem) that water is entering this area (which is drilled across the layers of fibreglass at this point) and then exiting through a pin-hole on the inside of the fibreglass around 36" aft of this point. Does anyone have a solution to sealing the anchor pin retention are in a more suitable manner. Whilst we are on the topic, and assuming I have to go deeper to fix the problem, can the rub-rail be removed, reseated and recaulked by the enthusiastic amateur? Thanks for any thoughts!

Fill & Drill

Steve: Have you thought about filling the void with epoxy and re-drilling the hole for the pin. If you get a syringe to inject the epoxy into the hole, you may be able to fill it up. Then you can just drill the hole out to the correct size. This may or may not work, but worth a try.

Try calling hunter marine for info,I had my rub rail removed to repair a leak by pro's and they said it was a hard job with help from hunter.

29.5 persistent leak fix

Steve, I didn't have this problem with my 29.5, but I do with my 356! Steve Dion's idea is a good one, similar to what we think we'll do when the snow melts. for the time being, we've just caulked it shut

Ditto on 2002 326

I have the same leak. Port side midship stancion (I think) if dealer does not get to it, I really hope Hunter will intervene. Good luck... Ed

Several Leaks

I also have a 1995 29.5 Hunter and it has developed two leaks. One is around the flange of the last port hole on the port side. Does anyone can tell me how to go about taking care of this problem. Does the outside flange come loose by removing the screws from the inside? What is the best way to remove the outside flange and what is the best material to use to seal the flange? The other leak is by the aft berth, on the port side. the water seem to be coming from a leak between the upper deck and the rubber bumper going around the whole boat. The caulk between the rubber bumper and the side of the boat, seem to have separated and a fine line of water is getting inside, right underneath by where the molded drainage of the upper deck is, closest to the stern of the boat. Any suggestion about the best material to use? any special marine caulk? or any silicone based caulk will do? Does the old caulk must be removed all around the boat, in its entirity? or it can be done just locally where the leak is? I thank all of you in advance for the advise. I love my boat, and I just wish, Hunter would insist that its dealers be better manned to service old boats and not just be interested in selling new boats. Best Regards, Jorge

hmmmm, I'll need to keep an eye on this...

I purchased a 29.5 last September, and, so far, the interior of the boat has been fine (bilge stays dry), however, as I'm sure, most 29.5 owners have found...the aft, swim platform lazerette(spelling??) fills with water all summer and winter long...there are a few threads on this subject in the archives, but, I'm still not quite sure why the hell this thing fills with water...if I can lick this thing...the boat will be DRY...leastwise until the head starts acting up, or, the hatches start leaking, or, the portlights start leaking or.....
