You don't know what the manufacturer will say until you ask them. Maybe they have heard of this before. Stranger things have happened.

I have a W&P time and tide clock aboard Mystic. It came with the boat and I have no clue how old it is or who bought it. It kept time erratically. sometimes too fast and sometimes too slow. I called W&P and asked them how much to fix. They said it was free unless there was corrosion. They did not care if I had a receipt or not. I sent it to them, they fixed it for free AND gave me a 20% coupon on a future purchase. It now keeps time to the minute. The distillation of all is is that these folks have tremendous customer service and this should be the first logical step you should take. That is all.

Here's an update. I put it in the garage where it was below freezing for a few days (it got into the single digits outside so it was probably 20's in the garage). The clock is still synced to the atomic clock so at least cold is not the reason. I think I'm going to try the heat/motion option next. Got to figure out a way to suspend it near the heat register so that it will move slightly like the motion of the boat on its mooring every time the heat kicks in.

I do like the Rod Serling quote posted by Eddie. One of my favorite old shows.

Thanks,

Dave

Is it affected by magnetism like your compass?

Is the clock mounted near a stereo speaker?

Just a thought.

Paul
I was having the same thought... Magnetic field or electrical coil near the clock, or positioned really close to a speaker.

DAVE5023,

My dad had a friend that constantly bragged about the gas mileage in his new Mercedes.Dad started secretly adding gas to his friend's tank.

That was a partial plot line in a 1972 movie "Pete and Tillie" starring Carol Burnett and the deceased Walter Matthau. Only the car was an orange VW IIRC. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0069080/ . I had thought about doing this also. I have a friend with a RAM PU and he needs an adjustment.
I also like the one about being an hour late using the clock as an excuse, mind if I use it?
Other options:
Throw it overboard - Who needs time on a boat?
Use it as a decoration, tell everyone it's broken.
Don't reset it. See how much time you lose or pick up over a season.
Set it to 5 O'clock and remove the battery.
