..........I also carry a 5 gallon reserve as well as the second 1 gal tank. The reserve alone is good for over 50 miles.............Chris
Have you had any luck finding 5 gallon tanks that don't seep at the cap? I haven't so I'd like a link to one if you have it. Do you keep the reserve in the Laz also?

I didn't like these 2 gallon ones (similar to the one shown) with the weird looking cap/fillers until I broke down and bought one. They don't seep at all at the cap/filler even if held upside down and I like the control they give you during filling. I don't like the filler always sticking out there though, but live with that and have made caps to keep dirt out of them.

.........I did like the vented tank in the laz - until I spilled a cupfull (or more) of gas. Took an entire afternnon to evaporate and then stunk all summer...............Chris
If you had a vented permanent tank that had an outside vented fill like Paul is talking about wouldn't the problem you mentioned go away?

Bill thanks for the link to the water separators. Like you said with our 5%-15% humidity out here I've never had a problem with water in my gas though, but I'll keep that in mind.

I've been busy for the last few days, so I haven't had much time to dig out the info on the tank, fill, etc. I have the info, I've just got to get it out, write it up, and take a couple of pictures. Will try to do that tomorrow after church. -Paul

I hear you Sumner about seeping fuel cans. Must have tried a couple dozen over the years.

I finally found one I like - it's a Scepter "Eco can".
It is made from heavier plastic that (supposedly) doesn't seep fumes, has a thick rubber gasket integrated into the spout/cap and has a spout that doesn't flow until a collar is depressed. Vent is integrated into the spout so you can actually invert the can, insert the spout into the fuel tank and then start gas flowing by pressing the collar with the lip of the fuel tank.

Hard to explain but the darn thing is absolutely drippless. The ability to completely invert it and lower it into the aft locker that way is priceless.

A product that actually "works as advertised"!
