I need to replace the plexiglass tube for my perko sea strainer.
size is 3.5" diameter and 4' ht. (FIG 493/500)
its not a regular item from the marine stores and a special order is about $100.00
This seems a tad high for what it is.
Has anyone else had to replace this part and have you tried using an alternative product? I am thinking of going to a local plastics manufacturer and seeing if they can duplicate this with a regular stocked item.

As far as I know that is a cast/molded polycarbonate product and not something you'll likely find.

Why do you need a new one? They tend to last forever. Ours was cloudy so I simply re-built the strainer and polished up the glass with plastic polish..

This is what it looked like after clean up..

I actually had a crack in mine (I think it is the same model). It appeared to be on a seam. I glued it with super glue while I was waiting for the new one to be delivered. That was 4 years ago and it is still working without leaking. The replacment is still sitting in the box.

Ouch, that sucks! Try calling Hamilton Marine with the part number it may be cheaper through them as they sell a lot of Perko parts.

Maybe I am missing something, but rather than repair the broken one why not just buy a whole new strainer assembly brand new? A Groco costs about $60 for one with 1 inch ports.

Check out the chandleries that handle used parts.
Sorry I can't suggest any in Ontario.
In 2005 I saw an almost whole Perko assembly in Sailor's Exchange, St Augustine, Florida. Because it was missing the stainless steel strainer basket, it was cheap, around $10 US. I bought it primarily to have a spare acrylic tube IT was not as clear as mine, but makes a great spare..
