I have a 4107 with a bad coolant pump. I removed the pump and have ordered a replacement. I've been told the replacement does not have a back plate or a pulley installed.

So I understand I need to remove the Pulley and use it and the back plate on the new unit.

I have the back plate removed and have brushed the rust (mostly) off the plate. I see where the impeller gouged the surface of the plate (Pictures attached).

Do I need to buff and smooth the plate before reusing?

I know I have to gasket both sides of the plate when installing. Do you use a dressing/adhesive to attach the gasket to the metal plate?

Thanks for your help.

I would use some aviation gasket sealer or similar sealer, it is a little messy, but it sure never hurt anything!

permatex makes a gasket sealer just for this application...you can get it at any auto parts ...its called silicone water pump sealer and is usually a very light transparent blue

Thanks all for the great support. I found a Perkins pump for the engine. Removed the pulley assembly from the old pump and pressed it on to the new pump matching the distance from the pump face so that the pulley will be in line when reinstalled. It went on fairly easily. Only one hitch. Bought 4 new bolts but not aware that there are two short and two longer. So had to repurpose to of the old bolts in order to tighten pump. Filled system with coolant. Ran engine for two minutes. Refilled header tank. Ran engine again a few minutes shut down. Heard system burp as boat rocked on a passing wave. Rocked boat a few times till burping stopped. Final coolant fill to 1/2 inch from top. Ran engine for 45 minutes in gear at dock. Temp gauge showed engine at 180 steady. Left for lunch. Came back and took boat out for a 90 minute test run. Engine ran smooth and temps steady at 180.

I think I may make it as a apprentice mechanic with you guys help. Thanks
