Looking for a performance, trailerable boat in the 22'-25' range. My needs are a bit complicated since I sail on the SW coast of Fla (shallow water and lots of shoals). She needs to perform VERY well and (here the catch) have a swing/dagger board keel/rudder. I'm not brand specific, all ideas welcome. My wife wants a small cabin, I'd rather have an open cockpit and pure speed so we need to meet in the middle.

Well, if you really wanna go fast...

look at a Corsair F-24 trimaran. It's trailerable (the amas fold in) and super fast (like 15-20 knots). It draws next to nothing so it would be great for shallow water. The downside is they're not cheap and multi-hulls are a love/hate thing for some people... Have fun!

New Hunter 216?

Hunter's brand new 216 is looking like a performance oriented boat with a small cabin. It's reasonably priced too. I'll have the chance to check one out later this week and will let you know what I think if you are interested. I know I'm excited about taking it out on Tuesday night races in Lake Union! See link below. Trevor

The multi hull idea is a great idea. The problem is $$$, actually the problem is the lack of $$$. Those are some seriously expansive boats. As for the Hunter 216, very nice boat, I will be very interested in how it performs.

Santana 2023

The Hunter 216 doesn’t have a full cabin; it has a cuddy cabin that is big enough to store a port-a-potty. If you really want a cuddy cabin instead of a full cabin, then the Hunter 216 meets your requirements. The Hunter 216 is considered a daysailor and not a racer/cruiser. You didn’t say if you were looking for new or used. The only racer/cruiser sailboat that meets all of your requirements is the Santana 2023R. The Santana 2023R is a water ballast racer/cruiser. Unfortunately the company that made them, W.D. Schock, stopped making them, you could get a used one. The Santana 2023R was replaced with the Santana 2023C, a weekend water ballast cruiser. Since the Santana 2023C is made by W.D. Schock than it should be fast, W.D. Schock is known on the West Coast as a racing sailboat manufacturer. W.D. Schock makes the Santana 2023C on a limited basis. You can check out W.D. Schock website or do an Internet search for Santana 2023 owners or try www.santana2023.org, they have a bulletin board you can post your questions about the performance of the Santana 2023C. The Hunter 216 should be the cheapest. Fair Winds. Clyde

The biggest factor

is how much you want to spend. It's hard to give advice if we don't know whether your max is 2500 or 25,000.

216

I have a 216 now and think that it would fill the bill nicely for what you want. Ed.
