Performance of Origo 4100 Two Burner Stove?

I am thinking of installing an Origo 4100 Two Burner alcohol stove in my Macgregor 26S. From initial measurements it appears I have enough room to cut out a space to the right of the sink and flush mount the stove in this space. My Stereo and VHF are currently mounted above this area and I will shift them over to somewhere near the cockpit entrance for convenience.

The electrical panel, with fuses & and switches, is mounted directly above the sink. I don't imagine that will be too close to the stove to create any problems and will therefore leave the panel where it is.

Does anyone have any feedback on this idea? Does anyone have experience, positive or negative, with an Origo 4100?

I think most have gone to propane, and the little 1lb bottles, but what I read the alcohol stoves work. but they are not cheap... and the seal needs to be good or it evaporates and/or collects water. depending on humidity.

Thanks for your feedback Bill. I am a bit uneasy about using gas on my boat because of a bad experience some 35 years ago when gas accumulated in the bilge and I nearly departed to higher altitudes.

I currently use a cheap butane (the small 65mm diameter cans) stove out in the cockpit as a temporary measure.

There is an Australian made 'Maxi' brand alcohol stove available out here (it has a good repuation with many), but it is also expensive like the Origo. I prefer the finish on the Origo stove and particularly like the flush mount ability of the 4100 as it give more headroom above the stove - an issue in the area next to the sink on my 26S.

I had an Origo 4100 on my previous boat (1991 26S) and loved it. To keep the alcohol from evaporating after each trip, I would wrap the canisters with plastic food wrap.

I wanted to get the same for my new boat (2000 26X), but based on several reviews that I found, the CookMate stove seemed to do as well for about $100 less.

Thanks for that feedback RJG. The Origo currently sells for between A$400-500 in Australia (depending where one makes the purchase) with the potholders extra at about A$70-80 each. Considering our $s are on parity at the moment that makes the option of having a Cookmate (inc one potholder) for $250, shipped from the US look very attractive!

Can someone advise if Cookmate is another name for Origo or have Cookmate pirated the design from Origo - both stoves look identicle in the photographs?

I have an Origo 1500...

single burner and I really like it. It is easy to use and well made. I would have liked the built-in two burner but I couldn't find one at a reasonable price. I got the 1500 on ebay for $40. The problem now is I want the pot holders and they are expensive.
