Local Rating

Typically, you would need a rating assigned by a local PHRF group in the area in which you intend to race. That said, I looked up all listed Hunter 30's in the current PHRF list of the Chesapeake Bay and they show: 219 rating for two Hunter 30's, shoal draft, folding prop, roller furling above the deck, one with 130% headsail and one with a 135% headsail 189 rating for Hunter 30-2, wing keel, roller furling below deck, 155% headsail. A 30 seconds per mile difference would make it worth your while to get an accurate rating thru the local PHRF rather than guess.

Thanks Stu. I was just curious what others have been assigned. I haven't been assigned one yet. My 30T has wing keel, furling below deck, and 110% head sail. I do have a chute on order and will have it in a few weeks. Our fleet is a chute only PERF fleet. They say that encourages everyone to have a chute. Thanks again.

Be sure you indicate the roller furling 110 and fixed prop on your rating certificate. Next season you might consider a folding prop and larger headsail; they are more than worth the extra seconds on the rating. Be sure to check out what the winning boats are using and make any upgrades you can. I'm not a fan of winged keel performance, but I'd assume that any boat can benefit from a smoother bottom finish; use a foam roller and hard finish paintnext year. If you don't have them, add a boom vang and backstay adjuster to control mainsail shape. The boat can probably handle a 135% genoa as the 110 may only be adequate in wnds over 15 knots. To do the best with the equipment and sails you have on the boat spend as much time as you can practicing with your crew, particularly to get used to the spinnaker. Hope you enjoy your racing this season.

Look what they gave me?

The Sail Fleet Commander issued me a PERF of 174. How do I go about finding out if this is right. Again, we are a fleet that is Spinnaker only. We did take a fourth place Wed. May 27th. Again thanks for your response.

30 TM vs 30-2?

I'm a 1993 30T. I belive they gave me a PERF for a 30-2 with a Spinnaker. Does anyone know which one is correct. Thanks in advance.

No ideal look at your boat spec's and the PHRF spec's you should be able to figure it out. Sorry. Rod

Really depends on PHRF Association

We had a PHRF for our Hunter 30 1980 on Lake Erie of 189 and now we are on Lake Huron it's 204.

New PERF is 186

A 186 PERF is very favorable. Thanks to everyone for your input.
