Can You Give Us Details ?

I sure am sorry I couldn't go with you all, but I am planning to sail out of Pensacola the first week of April, on our 23' O'Day. Just received all the charts, and have reservations at Rod & Reel Marina. Can you give us some pointers on things we should try to see or do, and things or places we should avoid? By the way, where can we find some tips on fishing in that area, and perhaps even out in the gulf close by?

Some Trip Details

Hi Mike, There are some additional photos from the week of sailing at these 2 web sites: www.mindspring.com/~benallen1 www.texassailor.com/pensacola2001.htm Our original plans had been to sail from Pensacola to Perdido Bay - about 15nm out in the gulf. We ended up making this journey twice. The part that we did not make was the 50nm trip from Pensacola to Destin, the wind was always coming right at us and we were not up to a 50 mile motor journey. Weather ranged from great to rainy to heavy fog, as you can tell from the photos. The temperatures ended up being rather mild, we only used the heater on two nights. We based out starting point at the Pensacola Shipyard Marina Complex, but there are several in the area. There are some execllent anchorages in the area, (1) behind Ft. McRee, on the western side, make a wide cut into the area as it is shallow. (2) Big Sabine bay, on the East side of the Pensacola Beach Bridge in the ICW, you can either anchor or tie up to a pier. (3) Terry Cove or Ingram Bayou in the Perdido Bay area. One area which I thought was interesting is that about 1 mile out of the Pensacola cut is the sunken battleship of the USS Mass. You can still see one of the big gun turrets just awash. Have a great time and let us know how it goes. We will probably be getting another trip somewhere along the gulf next year, plan to join us.
